Ten Years of M*A*S*H B*A*S*H Raised $270,500

Hospitals may be a necessity, but the North Valley Hospital medical and supporting staffs have a mind-set that a hospital is more than that to a community. After 10 years of throwing a “bash” of a fundraiser and raising $270,500, it’s clear that the community has demonstrated their response to our patient-centered care philosophy by investing in us too.

“Not only has the event raised a significant amount of money for the hospital’s capital equipment needs, but equally important, it has introduced friends to North Valley Hospital,” said Foundation Director Carol Blake. “I am thrilled that the MASH BASH has been so successful thanks to corporate and individual support.”

The North Valley Hospital Foundation is responsible for organizing and promoting the MASH BASH year after year. Supported by the hard work of dedicated volunteers, hospital employees and board members, the MASH BASH has evolved into one of the most anticipated fundraisers of the year. Combining a superior dinner menu and the Don Lawrence Orchestra with well thought of silent auction packages, a dance floor in the “mess” tent, kisses from Hot Lips, helicopter fly-in, themed decorations, military attire and a good cause to aid, the Foundation has been able to support many hospital capital equipment needs and programs.

The proceeds from this year’s MASH BASH netted $42,236, which will be used to purchase a portable X-ray machine for the North Valley Hospital Imaging Department. Having a mobile unit allows our staff to bring the machine to our patients’ bedsides, rather than transferring those patients to the Imaging Department, whose movements risk additional damage.

North Valley Hospital Emergency Department Physician Rod Vaught, MD with MontAlaska, said: “The portable X-ray is a tremendous benefit to the healthcare professionals, but more so to the patient. When seriously injured patients can remain stationary, it increases their comfort and minimizes further injury. Many of these types of cases are complicated, and the ED doctors are able to stay with the patient when the X-ray is being taken and direct the technician to position the equipment where the best pictures would be obtained.”

This widely-used piece of equipment is operated in every department of North Valley Hospital and is necessary, for example, when patients have severely broken bones making it unsafe to move or when doctors are monitoring heart attacks. It’s also used in the operating rooms during micro and laparoscopic procedures to guide surgeons and provide them with a direct visualization.

“Many of my trauma patients are unable to make it back to imaging due to multiple injuries,” said General Surgeon, Ryan Gunlikson, MD. “Therefore, a high quality X-ray machine gives us excellent images to make diagnostic and treatment plan decisions.”

North Valley Hospital’s current two-year old portable X-ray machine will be transferred to the Big Mountain Clinic to replace an older system. This also upgrades the clinic to digital so patients can receive instant diagnosis’s, resulting in better care.
