Celebrates Third Annual Patient-Centered Care Awareness Month
At North Valley Hospital, we recognize the Planetree philosophy everyday in everything we do. In October, we join other Planetree member sites from across the country in celebrating patient-centered care during the annual awareness month.
North Valley Hospital embarked on its Planetree journey seven years ago. In that time, a number of programs and services have been put into place to help create a more patient-centered, healing environment that reflects these values. These services include: Music Therapy, Certified Dog Visitation, Healing Arts, Clergy-on-Call, Acupuncture services and Complementary Therapies such as massage.
“Throughout the last seven years, North Valley Hospital staff has taken great strides to personalize, humanize and demystify healthcare for our patients,” said Mary Sterhan, Director of Planetree and Quality and Performance Improvement. “According to the most recent HCAHPS, 98 percent of our patients are willing to recommend us to their family and friends, which is well above the national average. We feel the reason for this trend is due to our patient-centered care approach.”
Becoming a Planetree hospital didn’t make us who we are. At the core, our values dovetail with the Planetree philosophy of patient-centered care. Planetree simply offers us the resources and ideas to strengthen who we are and achieve our goals that benefit the entire community. As we began this mission, we championed ideas that encouraged each staff member to perform even better than the outstanding care already provided.
