Avatar International Inc. Announces National Award Recipient for
Exceeding Patient Expectations in Service Quality for 2004

Orlando, Florida (May 3, 2005) –North Valley Hospital is recognized as a national award winner in healthcare service quality for Exceeding Patient Expectations by Avatar International Inc., the leader in measuring customer expectations in healthcare. North Valley Hospital has received this award for three consecutive years.

In making the announcement, Dr. Michael Everett, Avatar Founder and CEO said, “The expectation data has instilled renewed motivation and insight into patient surveys. Hospitals must pause if they are merely monitoring satisfaction. Satisfaction does not give a benchmark into the minds of your patients – not until satisfaction scores are compared to your patients’ expectations can you say: We are meeting and exceeding our patients’ expectations. We at Avatar feel very fortunate to help hospitals make such a difference to each and every patient.”

Dr. Everett was recently appointed by H.H.S. Secretary Tommy Thompson to the National Advisory Council of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). “Understanding the expectations of patients are what drive continuous improvement in healthcare,” explains Dr. Everett. He continues, “The basic definition of exemplary customer service is consistently meeting and exceeding your patient’s expectations. The more you are able to exceed expectations the more loyal your patients and the more they will recommend you to others.”

In accepting this award, Craig Aasved, CEO of North Valley Hospital, said,
“Feedback from the patient survey process helps us to know when we hit our target: to meet North Valley Hospital’s commitment to continuously improve the health and well-being of the people in the communities we serve.”

“We encourage all of our patients to complete a survey. The information we receive from our patients speaks to our goal of empowering people. Our goal is to provide them with knowledge to make them active partners in the decision making process for their care and treatment. Knowing, through the patient survey
process, how the community perceives their healthcare experience at North Valley Hospital is one way we accomplish that goal.”
