Immunization Efforts Bring Recognition to North Valley Hospital and Flathead County
The exceptional efforts of the North Valley Hospital staff were recognized by the Montana Immunization Program and the Flathead County Health Department for “achieving excellence in immunization activities.”
The Lighthouse Award was presented to hospital CEO, Craig Aasved, for “outstanding leadership efforts in disease prevention through immunization activities in Montana.” The recipients of this award are recognized for "lighting the way" for other professionals involved in immunization services.
The effort to assure a healthy influenza season for the staff, patients and others in the service areas of North Valley Hospital, is greatly helped by the large number of employees who protect themselves and their families from influenza. The vaccine was administered to 83% of the hospital’s 235 members of staff in the fall of 2005.
Stacey Almos, RN, CCM Employee Health/Education Coordinator has been giving vaccines for 22 years. Stacey sends out emails to staff to let them know when the vaccines are available and makes the rounds of the entire hospital to administrate them. For those who work the hospital night shift, vaccines are administered by the house coordinator.
Terri Dunn, RN, North Valley Hospital Planetree/Community Health coordinator also administers vaccines. Dunn teaches the Community Safe-Sitter Courses, First Aid, and wears many other ‘hats’ that help keep the hospital and the community healthy.
Both Almos and Dunn agree there are many dedicated nurses at North Valley Hospital who expend hours of exceptional effort to help keep each other and the extended North Valley Hospital family healthy. North Valley Hospital is “the center of healing, for the communities we serve.”
