The physical therapists at Columbia Falls provide one-on-one care, with an engaging attitude that will help you recover your function and meet your goals! Frequent attendance at continuing education and ongoing study keeps them up-to-date with the latest techniques. They use many manual techniques that are gentle, yet effective at decreasing pain and improving muscle function including: strain counterstrain, myofascial release and kinesiotape.

Physical therapists use their hands to determine what is happening with your muscles and joints – if there are spasms or restrictions, perhaps too much mobility, weakness or imbalance in the muscles, it could be contributing to your condition. Manual therapy includes specific joint mobilization techniques, where a graded pressure is applied to stretch and reduce restrictions in the joint capsule, enhancing small but very important accessory motions that enable our full range of motion. Other techniques, such as strain counterstrain or myofascial release involve using the hands on the muscles or connective tissue to reduce spasm or pain through specific positions or finely graded stretching of the fascia. Many other soft tissue massage techniques also are used when appropriate. Kinesiotape is applied to the muscles in a manner that changes the sensory input from the skin. It is helpful in either reducing muscle spasm or facilitating a muscle. Sometimes, it also may be used to help reduce swelling.

DURING YOUR FIRST VISIT it’s helpful if you wear comfortable clothing and adjust your schedule for this one hour appointment. Bring information on your health history and medications so that we have all the information necessary to establish your plan of care. Also bring your insurance information. Goals are developed with your input so that the program, designed just for you, is targeted to meet your body’s needs and capabilities. Close communication with your physician is essential to our success, and we will send a copy of the evaluation to them, as well as periodic updates during your course of treatment.

While you’re a patient of Columbia Falls Physical Therapy, you have access to the state-of-the-art exercise equipment during business hours to maximize your therapy between one-on-one sessions. Physical modalities include ultrasound and heat or cold applications that may be billed to your insurance as part of your treatment program.
