North Valley Hospital...a Planetree Model of Healthcare
North Valley Hospital became a Planetree affiliate in September 2002 joining a group of 64 other affiliates; today there are over 100 Planetree hospitals. Planetree is a model of healthcare that focuses on providing patient-centered care and offers a healing environment. It empowers patients and families through information and education, and encourages "healing partnerships" with care givers.

| Since embracing the Planetree philosophy, North Valley Hospital has identified six areas of focus in creating a patient-centered facility here in the North Valley: |

Each of these areas is steered by a committee comprised of staff, physicians and community members. Our progress has taken the efforts and ideas of many individuals, the people in most direct daily contact with patients and families have been the eyes and ears to direct our efforts toward truly patient-centered care. Several of the projects completed and/or in progress are the support and education of staff to bring the patient-centered ideals of Planetree into daily reality, a Community Health Library which gives patient, family members and staff access to health-related resources, a harpist that plays weekly for patients in their rooms, a quilt gifting program with quilts handmade by the Klothes Kloset in Columbia Falls, "Brahm's Lullaby" which is played overhead each time a baby is born, just to name a few. To participate as a community member in our Planetree projects, become a North Valley Hospital volunteer.
Planetree is a journey, not a destination, our evolution in the direction of its ideals will continue for the coming years.
