|  | Surgery Preparation
Hydrate yourself well the day before and nothing to eat or drink (including gum, candy or water) after midnight unless otherwise instructed or per physicians instructions.
A list of medications that you should take the morning of your surgery will be provided. These can be taken with a sip of water.
If indicated please bring in a current list of medications including over the counter medications that you are taking and a list of allergies.
Bring any advance directives and/or living wills if no copy is already on file with North Valley Hospital.
Please leave the following items at home, jewelry (including wedding rings, earrings, and any body piercings), cash, wallet purse and other valuables.
No smoking, chewing tobacco, or alcohol 24 hours prior to surgery.
Shower the night before and the morning of surgery using an antibacterial soap.
Wear loose fitting clothes (ie: sweats, button type shirts/blouses). With some surgical procedures patients may wear clean gym shorts that have no metal on them.
After surgery it is important to have an adequate liquid intake.
Please understand that surgery times are approximate and may vary based on the surgical schedule. It is important that you understand that a responsible person MUST drive you home at the time of discharge and a responsible person needs to remain with you for 24 hours following discharge.
