Special Care Unit

Located at the north end of the inpatient hallway, the Special Care Unit (SCU) provides a quiet, healing environment for higher acuity patients. Registered nurses with advanced levels of training provide care for patients who have a variety of illnesses including: Chest pain, heart failure, diabetic emergencies and pneumonia. The SCU provides heart and vital sign monitoring using a new, state-of-the-art system that now can be viewed hospital wide to allow patients’ whose conditions have improved increased levels of activity. We also offer short-term ventilator management under the direction of the Respiratory Therapy Department.

Some hospital stays are planned or non-emergent and allow patients to prepare for their stay. We strongly recommend leaving valuables at home, but encourage you to bring items that bring comfort. As a patient at North Valley Hospital we welcome your family and friends into your temporary home 24 hours a day, seven days a week to bring you the support, laughter, communication and joy you need to heal quickly. The four large, private rooms offer large windows facing a spectacular mountain range and a daybed that can be used as an oversized window seat during the day, and converted in the evening for a loved one to spend the night. Family nourishment areas are accessible to all patient guests to refresh and relax. Wireless internet is available throughout the hospital and each patient room is equipped with a desk, cable television and DVD player.

Our Planetree patient-centered complementary services offer dog visitation therapy, healing harp music, volunteer visitors and more. We also have an extended alternative care program with certified massage therapists and acupuncturists that may provide services in your room with a Hospitalist or physician’s referral.

Our team of physicians, care managers, nursing staff, physical therapists, occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists and dieticians are in partnership with patients and their families to meet our patients’ individual needs. We encourage you to participate in your healing experience by staying informed of your condition and asking staff questions so you understand the treatment we’re providing. Our Health Library is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the entire community. And our staff is available to you when you need us.

We thank you for choosing North Valley Hospital and want to hear how your experience was. Our “Caught You Caring” cards can be completed by patients, guests and staff, and provide an immediate response to the staff chosen to be recognized. We also offer Comment Boxes at both the North and South entrances for patients, guests and staff. The comments may be anonymous, or we respond at the end of each month to those with contact information. In addition, patients will receive a letter after their stay asking them to complete a short survey. We continue to evolve and improve our stellar quality and care; therefore, comments are important to us. We hope that each patient will take a few moments to answer the questions.
